The International Journal of Bamboo and Rattan (IJBAR) is a publication of the Sahelian Institute for Bamboo Research and Entrepreneurship Development (SIBRED) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Nigeria. The IJBAR’s Editorial Board is highly committed to sharing high-quality research with the global scientific community. Hence, the motto of IJBAR is: elevating bamboo and rattan research through quality papers, not just numbers.
IJBAR is an Open Access journal, which means our content is freely available online to anyone, anywhere, once published.
Our key principles are:
1. Articles are available online immediately after publication, free of charge.
2. We publish under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), allowing others to use, share, and adapt our content, as long as they cite us properly.
3. Authors keep the copyright of their work, but give IJBAR permission to publish it.
4. We charge APCs to authors as part of our partnership with MDPI, enabling us to publish and share research to a high standard. Through this partnership, authors benefit from MDPI's open access publishing model, increasing the visibility, readership, and citation impact of their research. As a policy, APCs are waived for the top 20 research articles accepted for publication in IJBAR each year from 2026 to 2028.
Our APC are charged in Naira (Nigerian Currency) at 30,000 - Processing and Publication Fees while International authors pay around 30 - 50 US Dollars.
5. All submissions are thoroughly reviewed by experts to ensure they are accurate and valid.
6. Submission and publication timeline is between 12 and 15 weeks
Editorial decisions are based solely on the manuscript's quality, without regard to the author’s financial situation, institution, or location. IJBAR's publisher, SIBRED (UNIZIK, Nigeria), partners with RIUCI Bambú - the International Network of Universities and Research Centers focused on bamboo with head office in Ecuador - towards attracting patronage from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Asia, and Africa.
IJBAR is committed to meeting the MDPI and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) criteria, adhering to best practices in peer review, editorial oversight, and publishing ethics, ensuring high standards in open access publishing.
